The 61st Southeastern Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society will be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico

    The Puerto Rico Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is hosting the 61st Southeastern Regional Meeting of the ACS (SERMACS 2009) on October 21-24, 2009 at the Puerto Rico Convention Center located in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  We are currently developing the general program, and related activities associated with the event.

    REGISTRATION


    The SERMACS 2009 Registration is Now Open!  Advance registration is until October 2, 2009.

    There is an early bird rate of $139.00 per room per night, valid until August 15, 2009.  After this date, the original rate of $160.00 per room per night will apply.  For details visit www.sermacs2009.org/housing.html.

    The advance registration (and rates) for exhibitors and graduate schools participating in the Graduate School Fair has been extended until August 15, 2009.

    MEETINGS WITHIN THE MEETING:


    SAACS Undergraduate Meeting (Graduate School Fair, Undergraduate Research and Poster Session, Workshops, Tours to the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus chemistry research facilities).

    FESTIVAL DE QUÍMICA:


    A Presidential National Chemistry Week event, "Festival de Química", will be held on Friday, October 23 at SERMACS 2009 where student affiliates chapters will receive K-12 students from around the island and make hands-on demonstrations related to 2009 theme "Chemistry it's elemental".   

    AAAS-CARIBBEAN DIVISION ANNUAL CONFERENCE:

    The AAAS-Caribbean Division will hold its annual conference (scientific sessions, teachers and elementary, middle and high school students workshops) on Saturday, October 24, jointly with SERMACS 2009.  The theme of this year's AAAS-Caribbean Division conference is "Astronomy and the Origin of Life".
